Gap Narrows in Key Swing State Florida
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] A poll showed that U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating is ahead of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
According to the political news outlet RealClearPolitics, a nationwide poll released on the 16th (local time) by the conservative-leaning polling agency Rasmussen showed that 47% of respondents chose President Trump, 1 percentage point higher than Biden's 46%.
Rasmussen stated that although Trump's approval rating is within the margin of error, this is the first time since they began their own polling in July that Trump has led Biden. Rasmussen was one of the few agencies that predicted Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election.
Despite Biden's lead, the gap between the two candidates' approval ratings has gradually narrowed recently. According to nationwide polls aggregated by RealClearPolitics, as of the 7th, Biden's approval rating (50.5%) was 7.5 percentage points higher than President Trump's (43%), but by the 17th, the gap had narrowed to 5.8 percentage points.
President Trump's rise was also observed in key battleground states. Florida Atlantic University announced that in a survey conducted on the 11th and 12th, the two candidates were tied at 50-50. In the polling aggregated by RealClearPolitics for Florida, Biden holds a 1.6% lead over President Trump, but the gap continues to shrink.
Florida is the battleground state with the largest number of electoral votes among the six key battleground states. President Trump has focused his efforts here after moving his residence to this state.
