[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Following confirmed COVID-19 cases at KBS and YTN the previous day, a new case was reported at the JTBC Creative Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul, where JTBC's headquarters are located.
On the 17th, JTBC announced that Assistant Manager A from JTBC Studio tested positive for COVID-19.
It was confirmed that Assistant Manager A had been working at the company until the 16th (yesterday).
JTBC has closed three floors, from the 13th to the 15th, of the new JTBC Creative Center.
They also plan to disinfect the entire Creative Center, including these three floors, as well as the existing Sinroe Building.
JTBC stated internally, "We will disinfect not only the new Creative Center but also the existing Sinroe Building. Please leave the building during the disinfection process." They added, "We are currently tracing the confirmed case's movements. Employees suspected of close contact within the past two weeks are advised not to come to work and to self-quarantine."
Employees working on the floors where the confirmed case was present, as well as those in other buildings, have shifted to remote work except for essential personnel.
A JTBC-affiliated film company that visited the Sangam office is also on high alert. A representative from the film company said, "Our employees are undergoing COVID-19 testing and are currently self-quarantining."
Following the infections at broadcasting stations such as KBS and YTN the previous day, concerns about the spread of COVID-19 are rising.
On the 16th, an employee responsible for sound operations on the 3rd floor of the KBS main building tested positive for COVID-19. KBS immediately held an emergency response meeting and conducted urgent disinfection of the entire main building. Additionally, a freelance PD who visited the KBS research building in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 10th and 11th also tested positive that morning.
YTN also confirmed a freelance PD tested positive late at night on the 15th, leading to the closure of the 6th floor of their Sangam-dong office in Mapo-gu, where the confirmed case had been. Staff assigned to the 6th floor were instructed to stay home. Most of YTN’s news programs are broadcasting without issues, but some programs have been canceled or replaced.
