Goheung-gun Secures 46 Billion Won for 'Flood and Wind Disaster Living Zone Improvement Project' Competition... Confirmed Hosting

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 17th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the Goheung-eup district was finally selected in the 2021 'Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Area Maintenance' contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, securing a total project cost of 46 billion KRW.

The 'Goheung-eup Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Area Maintenance' project addresses the Goheungcheon stream flowing through the Goheung-eup urban area, which has suffered continuous flood damage around the 2007 typhoon 'Nari' due to the narrow river width and poor drainage in the lowlands around Goheung Market, making permanent disaster prevention urgently needed.

Goheung-gun plans to invest 46 billion KRW over four years starting in 2021 to carry out disaster prevention projects including 5.4 km of Goheungcheon embankment maintenance, reconstruction of nine aging bridges, and stabilization of the steep slopes around Bonghwangsan Mountain.

With the launch of the 7th local government, Goheung-gun prioritized the flood prevention project in Goheung-eup, which is exposed to flood risk during heavy rains, aiming to make it a safe area from disasters. Through thorough preliminary preparations such as investigating flood cases in Goheung-eup and establishing project plans for improving the steep slopes around Bonghwangsan Mountain, they persuaded the evaluation committee, resulting in the final selection for this contest project.

County Governor Song Guigeun stated, "Once the project is completed, it will permanently protect 826 lives and 413 households and businesses around Goheungcheon from habitual flooding," and added, "We will continue to promote disaster prevention projects to make Goheung a safe and pleasant place to live."
