Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to Conduct Public Support Survey Until October 18

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced on the 17th that it has selected four candidates for this year's Korean Sports Hero: Kim Soo-nyung (archery), Sun Dong-yeol (baseball), the late Jo Oh-ryun (swimming), and Hwang Young-jo (marathon), and will begin a public support survey to help determine the final awardee.
The public support survey will be open to all citizens from the 18th until 6 p.m. on October 18 through the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee website, Naver main popup window, and the 2020 Korean Sports Hero voting page (http://hero.sports.or.kr/2020vote). Among participants, 500 people will be selected by lottery to receive beverage coupons.
On the 9th, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held the 12th Sports Hero Selection Committee meeting and, based on recommendations from the nominating committee, sports organizations, accredited reporters, and the general public, as well as final candidate recommendations from sports figures and the nominating press corps, finalized the four candidates.
The 2020 Korean Sports Hero will be selected by combining the qualitative evaluation results from the selection committee and evaluation press corps (70%) with the public support survey results (30%). The selected Sports Hero will be inducted into the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Hall of Fame.
Since 2011, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee has honored athletes and sports figures who have become role models for players and youth and have brought great joy and hope to the public by selecting them as Sports Heroes.
Past Korean Sports Heroes include: ▲2011 the late Sohn Ki-jung (marathon), the late Kim Sung-jip (weightlifting) ▲2013 the late Seo Yun-bok (marathon) ▲2014 the late Min Kwan-sik (sports administration), Jang Chang-seon (wrestling) ▲2015 Yang Jung-mo (wrestling), Park Shin-ja (basketball), the late Kim Un-yong (sports administration) ▲2016 Kim Yuna (figure skating) ▲2017 Cha Bum-kun (football) ▲2018 the late Kim Il (professional wrestling), Kim Jin-ho (archery) ▲2019 Um Hong-gil (mountaineering).
