Bungaejangter 2020 Star Goods Search and Trading Trends Announcement
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] BTS ranked first in the star goods peer-to-peer trading market as well. On the 17th, the secondhand trading platform Bungaejangter announced the "Star Goods Peer-to-Peer Trading and Search Trends" based on trading data from January to August.
Over the past three years, the transaction amount of star goods on Bungaejangter has steadily increased. From January to August this year, the average monthly transaction amount of star goods was 1.23 billion KRW, showing a 26% increase compared to the previous year. The number of transactions also rose significantly. The average monthly number of star goods transactions increased by 37%, from 43,000 last year to 59,000 this year. This means that about 2,000 star goods are traded daily on Bungaejangter. Additionally, the average monthly search volume in this category increased by 24.6%, from 2.8 million last year to 3.5 million this year.
Looking at star goods by product category, albums and videos were the most frequently traded with 79,000 transactions, followed by fan merchandise (51,000), posters and photo books (27,000), dolls and figures (18,000), and cheering tools (17,000). Among star groups, boy group goods accounted for 66% of the total star goods transaction amount and 72% of the transaction volume.
The popularity of BTS, the first Korean singer to top the US Billboard main singles chart, was also reflected in goods trading. Among all star goods traded on Bungaejangter, BTS-related goods accounted for the highest proportion at 38% based on transaction amount. From January to August, 160,000 BTS goods were traded on Bungaejangter, amounting to approximately 3.7 billion KRW. This figure is more than four times that of the second most traded group, IZ*ONE. Among BTS goods, photocards were the most traded with 51,000 transactions, followed by albums and postcards. Official BTS goods ranked fourth with over 7,000 transactions.
A Bungaejangter official said, "'Deokjil' (fandom activities) has established itself as a culture, and the star goods market is diversifying and growing further," adding, "We hope Bungaejangter becomes a platform where 'deoks' who share the same tastes and passion can connect and share their interests."
