[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, who smoked marijuana and engaged in a reckless high-speed chase in a Porsche in Haeundae, Busan.
The suspect's warrant hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on the 18th.
After smoking marijuana, Mr. A drove his Porsche and caused a seven-vehicle pileup, damaging nine cars and injuring seven people. The Busan police applied the "Yoon Chang-ho Act" and requested a pre-arrest warrant from the prosecution.
The Yoon Chang-ho Act, which imposes heavier penalties on drunk drivers, also applies to drivers who cause traffic accidents after consuming drugs such as narcotics.
On the 17th, the prosecution filed an arrest warrant against Mr. A on charges including violation of the Yoon Chang-ho Act (dangerous driving causing injury), violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run causing injury), and violations of the Road Traffic Act and the Narcotics Control Act.
On the afternoon of the 14th at 5:42 p.m., Mr. A drove his Porsche into a motorcycle and a passenger car consecutively at the intersection in front of E-Mart in Jung-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan. Then, on the opposite side of the road, he collided with a bus and a Korando vehicle waiting at a traffic light, causing a vehicle to overturn and finally stopping his reckless high-speed chase.
Just before the seven-vehicle collision, he hit two cars on the road in front of Haeundae Sponge and fled the scene.
The motorcycle driver was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, with a total of seven people sustaining serious and minor injuries.
About 60 bankbooks found in Mr. A's vehicle were confirmed to have no criminal implications.
