[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of Employment and Labor published the 'Comprehensive Telecommuting Manual' on the 16th. It is expected to serve as a guide to establishing a telecommuting culture in the industrial field in response to the post-COVID-19 era.
On the same day, Minister Lee Jae-gap of the Ministry of Employment and Labor held a non-face-to-face meeting attended by representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises and telecommuting workers, and announced the comprehensive telecommuting manual.
Recently, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of companies utilizing telecommuting to prevent infection, care for family, and improve work efficiency has been increasing.
An official from the Ministry of Employment and Labor said, "As demand for guidance on the introduction and operation of telecommuting systems has increased, the preparation of a guidebook containing abundant information is expected to greatly contribute to the activation of telecommuting."
The telecommuting manual includes ▲ procedures for introducing telecommuting ▲ drafting operation regulations ▲ personnel and organizational management plans such as attendance management and collaboration ▲ legal issues and Q&A ▲ government support programs such as consulting and corporate case studies.
It also introduces important tasks in telecommuting such as successful communication, team building for collaboration, individual responsibility of telecommuters, and management of information and communication technology.
In particular, it contains information and tips for successful telecommuting, such as effective communication techniques during telecommuting, video conferencing methods, and self-management tips for telecommuters.
The legal issues section is organized into working hours, overtime and rest periods, attendance management and performance evaluation, telecommuting costs and equipment, personal information protection and security measures, safety and health, and industrial accident compensation.
The comprehensive telecommuting manual can be viewed at the telecommuting online consultation center on the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s Work-Life Balance website.
Minister Lee said, "While there has been a global movement to expand smart work in response to demographic changes, the COVID-19 situation has become a catalyst for the rapid spread of telecommuting, establishing it as a new standard of working methods."
He added, "Successfully establishing telecommuting can be not only a way to overcome the COVID-19 crisis but also an opportunity for innovation in working methods. I hope that the manual published this time will serve as a guide to firmly establish telecommuting in the industrial field with trust and understanding."
