[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The government announced on the 16th that it plans to appoint the first term of private members to the Youth Policy Coordination Committee in accordance with the 'Youth Basic Act' implemented in August this year.
The inaugural private vice-chairman of the Youth Policy Coordination Committee is Professor Seungyun Lee of Chung-Ang University. Professor Lee was appointed as a professor at the age of 30 and has devoted the past 10 years to research on protecting the rights and interests of young workers.
In particular, among the 20 private members, 12 are youth (ages 19-34), and candidates who have played significant roles in areas such as youth rights, independence, housing improvement, community and economic revitalization, and youth employment and startups have been appointed as members.
Among them are Bo-bae Kang, director of Jeju Youth Social Cooperative, who is working to establish a foundation for youth participation in the Jeju region; Han Yoon, a youth producer at Korea Tourism Organization involved in 'Chuncheon Gwandongdure' activities introducing Chuncheon’s attractions; professional female Go player Da-hye Lee, 5-dan, who developed an educational program combining Go and coding; Jung-hoon Lee, CEO of Food Nature agricultural corporation, who returned to farming at age 27 and is striving for the development of the agro-biological industry in Jeonbuk; Han-sol Lee, chairman of Mindalpaengi Housing Cooperative, who is seeking solutions to youth housing issues together with young people; Seo-won Jung, the youngest member (22 years old) and currently a university student active in the Busan Youth Committee and a student at Korea Maritime and Ocean University; Dong-in Jo, CEO of Mittelstand, a startup providing entrepreneurship experience education to promote youth startups; Eun-ju Jo, chairperson of the Youth Credit Union Promotion Committee, who has been active in youth rights and independence including the establishment of the Siheung City Youth Basic Ordinance; Min-gyu Ji, chairman of the Chungnam Youth Network, who has continuously worked to institutionalize and revitalize youth participation in the Chungnam region; Seo-yoon Hong, representative of the Korea Disabled Tourism Association, who is active in tourism for the elderly and disabled as a person with a spinal cord injury; Kyung-min Hwang, CEO of Vpix Medical, who was selected as one of Forbes’ 'Asia’s 300 Global Young Leaders under 30'; and Hee-do Hwang (YouTuber), who communicates with youth on various social issues through YouTube. These 12 youth will participate as private members.
Additionally, private members include Go-san, CEO of A-Team Ventures, who has shown great interest in youth life and built expertise in related fields; Ki-heon Kim, senior researcher at the Youth Policy Institute; Hee-jung Park, CEO of Manifesto Youth Cooperative; Hyo-kwan Jeon, secretary general of the Korea Arts Council; Ji-eun Jung, CEO of Codit; Ok-kyung Jo, researcher at the Korea Educational Development Institute; and Eun-young Choi, director of the Korea Urban Research Institute.
Meanwhile, since youth policy covers all ministries across economic and social sectors, the Prime Minister has appointed the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination as the government-side vice-chairman to oversee and coordinate these efforts.
A government official stated, "The first appointment ceremony for private members will be held at the 1st Youth Policy Coordination Committee meeting on the 18th," adding, "We will continue to implement policies that reflect the vivid voices of youth so that they can feel the changes firsthand."
