Busan University of Science and Technology recently received the '2020 National Service Award.'
The 'National Service Award,' hosted by the Industrial Policy Research Institute (IPS) and sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, is an award ceremony that selects excellent services representing South Korea and widely loved by the public.
Through a rigorous process evaluating service competitiveness and vision, industrial and social contributions, operational performance, and sustainable management plans, 47 services across 7 fields including education, finance, and distribution are selected.
Busan University of Science and Technology was selected as the grand prize winner in the category of the most loved university by consumers in the fields of vocational education and industry-academia cooperation this year.
Last year, Busan University of Science and Technology was finally selected as an autonomous improvement university in the university basic competency diagnosis evaluation hosted by the Ministry of Education, and was simultaneously selected for both Type I and Type III (leading re-entry education project) of the Specialized College Innovation Support Project.
In addition, it achieved remarkable results by being selected for all three major financial support projects hosted by the Ministry of Education, including the Leading Industry-Academia Cooperation Specialized College (LINC+) project.
Furthermore, it is carrying out various national financial support projects such as the Job Parallel System Project hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the University Job Project, the SME Contract Department Project, and the Technical Officer Training Project hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, focusing on demand-centered industry-academia cooperation services based on the industry-academia-government linkage system.
In particular, it received the highest rating of 'Excellent' in the evaluation for the '2020 Specialized College LINC+ Development Project (Social Customized Department Focused)' annual and 4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading Agreement Class designation, being recognized as a valuable regional university.
The LINC+ project has signed business operation and employment linkage agreements with about 250 companies including LG Electronics Co., Ltd., SK Networks Walkerhill, Hansung Motors Co., Ltd., and Seowon Distribution Co., Ltd., achieving an overall employment rate of 90.1% for participating students last year (compared to the number of contracted hires, including non-partner companies), demonstrating practical demand-customized project operation results satisfying universities, companies, and students alike.
Based on abundant financial support, the university pursues unlimited impressive services for student welfare, including the establishment of a demand-centered state-of-the-art educational environment and educational equipment, development of various educational programs for nurturing creative convergence-type professionals responding to the 4th Industrial Revolution era, and support for acquiring certifications.
To cultivate field-centered talents meeting the job level required by industries, the entire curriculum has been completely reorganized into a competency-based and field-centered curriculum, laying the foundation for industry-customized talent development.
