Classwork as Contest Entry... "Just Easily Applied What I Learned in Class"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University students swept the ‘Outdoor Advertising Exhibition’ organized by Ulsan City.
Local governments nationwide are making various efforts to enhance the level of outdoor advertising by developing creative and beautiful signboard designs, and by exhibiting and promoting excellent advertisements to foster street signboard culture.
At the contest held by Ulsan City to establish a beautiful outdoor advertising culture, the works of Dongseo University students shone brightly.
At the 20th Ulsan City Outdoor Advertising Awards hosted by Ulsan City, works by students from Dongseo University’s College of Design showcased their skills by sweeping various awards, including the highest student award, the Gold Prize and Bronze Prize.
The award-winning works were completed through the ‘Conceptual Planning’ class in the Graphic Design route of the College of Design (supervised by Professor Lee Jin-ho). The class directly connected to the contest, and the results received favorable evaluations.
Kim Beom-chang won the Gold Prize (Ulsan Mayor’s Award with a prize of 1.5 million KRW), and fellow students Jo Jae-young, Go Kang-won, and Lee Joo-yeon won Bronze Prizes and other awards.
This contest was divided into two categories: general division creative advertisements (models, designs), installed advertisements (designs), and student division creative advertisements (designs). A total of 150 works were submitted from the 25th of last month to the 1st of this month.
The work by Kim Beom-chang, which won the highest award, the Gold Prize, in the creative advertisement (design) category, was titled ‘Our Neighborhood Grain Market for Modern People, With Mi (with 米)’.
It branded a grain local market for modern people who lack grain intake, expressing a Korean feeling in a modern and contemporary style as much as possible.
The work was created as if applied to actual products, advertisements, and buildings, receiving a positive response.
Kim Beom-chang said, “The brand’s concept was clear, so I worked easily and designed it enjoyably. I am very happy that what I learned in design class has resulted in such an amazing outcome.”
