[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Yuhan-Kimberly announced on the 14th that its representative domestic environmental campaign, ‘Our Rivers and Mountains Green and Greener,’ is being localized in Mongolia through forest restoration and other efforts.

As part of desertification prevention activities, Yuhan-Kimberly established the ‘Yuhan-Kimberly Forest’ in Mongolia. The Yuhan-Kimberly Forest is an artificial plantation restored by planting more than 10 million trees since 2003 in the Tojin Nars area of Mongolia, which was devastated by two large forest fires in the 1990s. This project was carried out by Yuhan-Kimberly and the Northeast Asia Forest Forum, a civic organization, to restore the damaged forest.

The Tojin Nars area, meaning ‘Endless Pine Forest,’ has transformed into a healthy forest about 11 times the size of Yeouido thanks to the efforts of the Our Rivers and Mountains Green and Greener campaign to prevent desertification. A 10-meter-high ecological tower has been installed in the Yuhan-Kimberly Forest, allowing visitors to appreciate the beautiful scenery of desertification prevention and forest restoration. Additionally, it offers a unique pleasure of observing the wild flora and fauna that have returned as vitality has been restored.

MSD (Mongolian Star Distribution LLC), a Yuhan-Kimberly sales partner conducting the Green Mongolia campaign locally, explained that this year’s sales increased by about 40% compared to the previous year, attributing this growth largely to patriotic marketing efforts initiated this year.

A Yuhan-Kimberly representative stated, “As the first phase, we planted 10 million trees from 2003 to 2014 to prevent desertification in Mongolia and reduce yellow dust and fine dust from Korea. Since 2015, the second phase has involved forest management for a healthy forest up to this year. Based on our experience in tree planting and forest management in Mongolia, we are accumulating expertise in desertification prevention, and we hope this forest will serve as a model to aid desertification prevention,” they said.
