[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Global outdoor brand Black Yak (Chairman Kang Tae-seon) announced on the 14th that it has released the music video for Kim Dong-ryul’s “Departure” as part of the Black Yak Alpine Club (BAC) campaign with brand model Kang Ha-neul.
This music video features the passionate community BAC, who continuously enjoy hiking to convey the brand’s values and positive changes in life. It captures Kang Ha-neul’s actual experience of walking, climbing, and observing the mountains, aiming to communicate the value of mountains and nature where the “process” rather than the “result,” and “enjoyment” rather than “competition” are the goals.
It is noteworthy as a brand music video uniquely utilizing singer Kim Dong-ryul’s “Departure.” The lyrics of “Departure” focus on facing nature and heading toward a wider world to gain relaxation and strength, rather than competition or challenge, aligning perfectly with the brand’s philosophy and direction. This synergy effect enhances the delivery of the BAC campaign message even without special narration.
The music video begins with Kang Ha-neul preparing for departure by adjusting his camera. It vividly portrays his journey of “solo hiking” by showing him energetically walking along the vast ridgeline of Hwangmaesan Mountain, resting under a tree to cool off sweat from the rain, and climbing various summit rocks to take in the breathtaking natural scenery.
In the latter part, Kang Ha-neul is depicted spending time at a campsite under the starry night sky in the mountains, casually chatting with people he meets by chance and observing constellations through a telescope.
The long-take filming technique combined with the lyrics and rhythm of “Departure” elevates the atmosphere, allowing viewers to indirectly experience the unfamiliar yet thrilling sensations that nature offers. It naturally conveys the stories and emotions encountered throughout a day spent in harmony with nature.
A Black Yak representative said, “Last season, we showed the joy of the BAC play culture of certifying mountain summits. Through this music video, where the brand’s direction, Kang Ha-neul’s genuine challenge, and Kim Dong-ryul’s ‘Departure’ meet, we wanted to convey that simply being with nature itself holds meaning.”
