[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The Emergency Response Committee of the Korean Intern Resident Association (Daejeonhyeop) announced on the 6th that it would suspend collective action and return to medical practice.
Park Ji-hyun, the Emergency Response Committee Chair of Daejeonhyeop, said through a live broadcast on social media in the afternoon, "The Korean Medical Association's 'rush signing' with the government and ruling party has blurred the justification for collective action."
Chair Park stated, "Many think that if it is not in the current manner, the strike is over, but a phased strike is not the end but a process of regrouping."
She added, "Even if we suspend collective action now, we must engrave our anger and despair and fundamentally reform the root problems," emphasizing, "Our reform will never stop."
Daejeonhyeop evaluated that although the collective action conducted over the past month was not 100% satisfactory, it was certainly meaningful.
Chair Park said, "We have formalized the suspension of the bill's promotion and the re-discussion from scratch," adding, "It showed that young doctors can always unite to discuss and solve medical issues."
On the same day, Daejeonhyeop lowered the level of struggle to Stage 1 (return of interns and residents, return of students, and only one-person protests) and decided to return to the field starting from 7 a.m. on the 7th.
