The "2020 Overseas Korean Language Experts Learning Connection," hosted by the National Institute of the Korean Language (Director: So Gangchun) and organized by Ewha Womans University (President: Kim Hyesook), has successfully concluded its joint training program for master's and doctoral level participants.
The first of the two courses in the "2020 Overseas Korean Language Experts Learning Connection," the joint training program for master's and doctoral levels (weeks 1-3), focused on strengthening the educational capabilities of overseas Korean language education experts. Through training on Korean language teaching methods, content knowledge, policy, and educational material development, the ultimate goal was to develop educational materials.
This year, due to the spread of non-face-to-face environments, a professional and systematic educational program was provided through remote lectures and real-time online methods. This training session is the first long-term national-level training supported via real-time online methods related to Korean language education. With the successful conclusion of this training, it is expected that overseas support projects utilizing real-time training will diversify in the future.
At the closing ceremony, participants presented the educational materials they developed. Participants realized ideas for developing Korean language education materials gained through lectures, cultural experiences, and group activities during the training, creating well-rounded educational materials applicable in overseas settings. The participants of this training prepared educational materials tailored to their own interests and target groups according to their country's circumstances, successfully concluding the program.
Professor Lee Haeyeong of the Department of Korean Studies at Ewha Womans University Graduate School of International Studies (Director of Ewha Womans University Korean Culture Research Institute), who is responsible for this project, stated that through this training, overseas experts were able to enhance their professional capabilities in Korean language education and Korean culture. She especially noted, "Although we could not gather in one place, it was a meaningful time to meet, learn, share, and enjoy together. We were able to see the possibilities of future education brought about by the sudden advent of the new normal era."
Meanwhile, the doctoral-level training program of the "2020 Overseas Korean Language Experts Learning Connection" will be held for three weeks from September 7 to September 25.
