Confirmed Case No. 40 Who Entered Provincial and City Halls Visited 19 Locations and Contacted 52 People
Disinfection Completed at 19 Locations as of 2 PM on the 31st
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] COVID-19 testing is underway for 500 public officials, including those at Jeju Provincial Office and Jeju City Hall, who were exposed to the 40th confirmed COVID-19 case in Jeju.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province disclosed the epidemiological investigation results on the 31st regarding patient A, who was confirmed as the 40th COVID-19 case in the province around 11:10 PM on the 29th, after visiting Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Springs in Sagyeri, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo City.
It was confirmed that patient A stayed at the hot springs between 2:40 PM and 6 PM on the 23rd, when the 29th and 33rd confirmed cases in Jeju, a pastor couple, also visited Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Springs. Patient A received a disaster safety text message encouraging testing for those who visited the hot springs on the 29th, visited Jeju City Public Health Center around 3 PM that day, underwent testing, and was confirmed positive.
The epidemiological investigation revealed that from the 24th to the 29th, patient A visited 19 locations including Jeju Provincial Office and had contact with a total of 56 people as of 2 PM on the 30th.

Contacts include 5 residents encountered in the elevator of patient A’s residence, as well as ▲door-to-door sales office (5 colleagues) ▲Mankangchon Old Kalguksu (1 staff, 4 customers) ▲Jocheon-eup Office (1 staff) ▲Jeju Provincial Office (3 staff) ▲Yeondong Community Center (7 staff) ▲Jeju City Hall (6 staff) ▲Rose & Clinic (3 staff) ▲Saram Fitness Yeondong Branch (2 staff, 12 customers) ▲Omakase Restaurant Shogosushi (1 staff) ▲and 2 acquaintances, totaling 52 people.
According to the epidemiological investigation including on-site CCTV analysis, there were no contacts at ▲Aritaum Nohyeong Five-way Intersection Branch ▲Jeju Eastern Public Health Center ▲Saebom Pharmacy ▲Yeokjeon Grandma Beer Ara Branch ▲Jesco Mart ▲Safe Self Car Wash ▲Mendorong Haejangguk, and contacts at Lotte Mart are currently being identified. Jeju’s quarantine authorities have completed disinfection measures at the 19 identified locations and imposed self-quarantine on the 52 contacts.
According to Jeju Province, patient A showed coughing symptoms from the 26th. Following the Central Disease Control Headquarters’ guidelines for disclosing confirmed patients’ movement paths, the movements from two days before symptom onset, the 24th, to the confirmation date, the 29th, were disclosed.
Jeju Province does not disclose locations without contact or transmission risk to minimize privacy invasion and damage caused by disclosure. If no symptoms are confirmed, the disclosure period is from two days before the specimen collection date to the quarantine end date. Regardless of public disclosure, contact quarantine and disinfection are conducted.
Patient A was transferred to a negative pressure isolation ward at Jeju National University Hospital around 2 AM on the 30th and is receiving isolated treatment.
Jeju’s quarantine authorities are investigating additional contact information through on-site epidemiological investigation, CCTV, and analysis of patient A’s credit card usage. Detailed movement paths and contact information related to patient A will be additionally disclosed and quarantine measures implemented via disaster safety text messages, the website, and SNS as soon as confirmed.
Meanwhile, Jeju quarantine authorities temporarily closed six departments including the General Civil Service Office at Jeju Provincial Office, six departments including the General Affairs Division at Jeju City Hall, Yeondong Community Center, Jocheon-eup Office, and Jeju Eastern Public Health Center from the 30th to the 31st based on contact times, and completed disinfection of all departments. The affected departments at Jeju Provincial Office are Civil Service Office, Senior Welfare Division, Welfare Policy Division, Disabled Welfare Division, Airport Expansion Support Division, and Autonomous Administration Division. The affected departments at Jeju City Hall are General Affairs Division, Property Tax Division, Resident Welfare Division, Senior and Disabled Division, Basic Livelihood Security Division, and Women and Family Division.
From the 31st, Jeju Province issued an emergency directive to all public officials including those in administrative cities to wear masks while working except during meal times. Especially, from September 1 to 8, all government buildings within the provincial office will prohibit visitors for non-official business, and the 2nd government building and 3 annexes housing the quarantine department will ban all civil visitors except meeting attendees.
Jeju’s quarantine authorities are conducting COVID-19 testing for about 500 public officials at the provincial office and departments visited by patient A.
