A State-of-the-Art 'Jeonbuk IOT Industrial Safety Experience Center' to Open in Iksan

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Tae-in] A state-of-the-art industrial safety experience training center to protect workers from various industrial accidents will be established in Iksan, Jeonbuk.

On the 31st, the city announced that it will build the "Jeonbuk IOT Industrial Safety Experience Training Center," linked to the 4th Industrial Revolution, on the support facility site of the 4th General Industrial Complex located in Hamyeol (886 Dasong-ri, Hamyeol-eup).

The Jeonbuk IOT Industrial Safety Experience Training Center will be constructed with a total project cost of approximately 27.4 billion KRW, fully funded by the national government based on the feasibility study results. It will have one basement floor, three above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 4,510㎡.

The training center will include various safety experience facilities for workers such as a Safety Archive Hall, Smart Experience Hall, Future Safety Experience Hall, Virtual IOT Hall, and Healthcare Experience Hall. It will be equipped with various programs utilizing the latest IT technologies such as Internet of Things (IOT), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR), which are future-oriented safety experience facilities.

The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency plans to proceed swiftly with the project, starting with the purchase of the project site within this year, followed by detailed design from next year, aiming for an opening in 2024.

Once completed, it is expected to be the only advanced technology training center in the country, with an annual training demand of about 25,000 people.

The industrial safety experience training centers operated by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency are currently established and operating in six locations nationwide by region (Incheon, Damyang, Gyeongsan, Gongju, Gimhae, Jecheon), and the Honam Training Center located in Damyang, Jeonnam, is used as a training center for workers in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam.

However, due to poor accessibility and outdated facilities, there have been many difficulties in operation, leading to criticism that the Jeonbuk area has been neglected in terms of industrial safety.

To address this reality, the city has frequently visited the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency located in Ulsan, and has made every effort to secure national budget through active cooperation with the political sector. As a result, it secured 1 billion KRW in national funds this year and completed the feasibility study by the end of this month.

An official from Iksan City said, "With the establishment of the Jeonbuk IOT Industrial Safety Experience Training Center, it is expected to greatly contribute not only to the prevention of industrial accidents in the Jeonbuk area but also to meeting the demand for industrial education nationwide as the country's first state-of-the-art safety experience training center." He added, "In particular, together with the nearby Iksan Chemical Disaster Joint Disaster Prevention Center, it is expected to play a key role as the control tower for industrial safety in the province."
