[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States has expressed concern that North Korea's hacking team is resuming financial hacking using automated teller machines (ATMs).
On the 26th (local time), four agencies under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Treasury Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Cyber Command, jointly issued an alert, pointing out that North Korean hacking groups have been infecting banks' retail payment systems with malware and then stealing cash from ATMs since February, targeting banks in multiple countries.
Brian Ware, Deputy Director of Cybersecurity at CISA, stated, "North Korean cyber actors have demonstrated creative tactics in applying their methods not only in the financial sector but also in other fields through illicit cyber operations."
The United States also issued an alert in October 2018 after confirming malware used by North Korea for ATM cash withdrawal scams.
