[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Ahn Min-seok, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, emphasized at the 8.29 Democratic Party Convention that regional committee chairs should not infringe on party members' rights. Instead, Ahn stressed that voters should choose candidates who promise to enact the Special Act on Confiscation of Illegally Hidden Assets.
On the morning of the 22nd, Ahn posted on Facebook, urging, "I earnestly ask certain regional committee chairs to refrain from 'gang-up attacks' supporting specific candidates that violate the precious rights of party members, in the name of Democratic Party members."
Ahn said, "I hope you cast your valuable vote for candidates who promise to enact the 'Special Act on Confiscation of Illegally Hidden Assets,' as directed by President Moon Jae-in, to practice mature party member consciousness."
He pointed out, "No candidate has pledged to enact the Special Act on Confiscation of Illegally Hidden Assets. The Special Act on Confiscation of Choi Soon-sil's Hidden Assets, proposed in the 20th National Assembly with the agreement of 170 lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties, was regrettably discarded without even being submitted to the Judiciary Committee due to opposition from the opposition party and some members of the Democratic Party."
He also emphasized, "Shouldn't we track down and recover the enormous illegally hidden assets that power holders and conglomerates have transferred overseas since the Park Chung-hee regime and return them to the people? It would be even better to use them for COVID-19 relief funds."
He then earnestly requested the candidates running in the Democratic Party Convention, "I sincerely ask you to promise the enactment of the Special Act on Confiscation of Illegally Hidden Assets, even now."
