Seoul City Councilor Donghyun Lee (Seongdong 1) States "Concerns of Youth and Young Adults Are the Nation's Future Challenges"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul’s first 'Urban Area Youth Mental Counseling Center' has opened in Seongdong-gu.
Lee Dong-hyun, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council’s Education Committee (Democratic Party, Seongdong 1), attended the opening ceremony of the Urban Area Youth Mental Counseling Center located in Seongdong-gu on the 13th.
The Urban Area Youth Mental Counseling Center is a space where young people who feel the need for psychological counseling in various areas such as job or employment stress, interpersonal relationships, social life, personality, and culture can openly share their concerns individually or in groups.
The center is fully funded by the city, with a budget of 300 million KRW from Seoul City. It was proposed by Councilor Lee Dong-hyun to support psychological counseling for youth in the urban area, and it is operated as the first 'Youth Mental Counseling Center' in the urban area in Seongdong-gu.
At the opening ceremony, in addition to Councilor Lee Dong-hyun, Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, who worked to establish the counseling center in Seongdong-gu, and Kim Young-kyung, Head of the Seoul Youth Office, also attended.
Councilor Lee Dong-hyun said, “Recently, youth suicide rates and psychological issues have been highlighted, and it seems that the root cause lies in the mind,” adding, “I hope that Seoul’s youth will gain vitality in life and emit positive energy to society through the counseling center, and I will further accelerate projects for Seoul’s youth.”
He also stated, “Through the recently proposed Seoul Metropolitan City Youth Participation Activation Support Ordinance, I will do my best to activate the participation of more youth and to advance, solidify, and diversify youth policies.”
