[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Kia Motors officially launched the 4th generation new Carnival on the 18th. The Carnival, which set a new record on the first day of pre-orders and reaffirmed its presence as the absolute leader in the domestic minivan market, also attracted attention by utilizing augmented reality (AR) technology during the online launch event.
On the 18th, Kia Motors held an online new car presentation for the new Carnival and started sales in response to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). In particular, the event drew attention as it was composed of content incorporating AR technology for the first time in Korea.
Starting with a spectacular unveiling through AR, the vehicle's interior and exterior could be examined more vividly. For the interior, even storage spaces and legroom could be checked in detail. Additionally, various advanced functions of the vehicle could be demonstrated directly, which was evaluated as effective in enhancing understanding of the vehicle.
The 4th generation Carnival, released after a complete redesign in six years, was designed with the concept of "majestic volume." Kia Motors explained that the interior was intended to be an attractive advanced space. Furthermore, it features best-in-class boarding and alighting convenience technologies, comfortable space, and excellent advanced driver assistance systems.
The market response has been explosive. On the first day of pre-orders alone, more than 23,000 units were contracted, setting the highest record in the history of the domestic automobile industry. During the 14 business days of pre-orders before the launch, about 32,000 units were achieved, surpassing half of last year's annual sales record (63,706 units).
