[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu sent words of encouragement to a fan who requested financial support.
On the 13th, Jang Sung-kyu posted on his Instagram, "These kinds of requests have been quite frequent lately," adding, "My heart aches and I feel sorry, and I really want to help, but I apologize for not being able to support each one individually." He continued, "But one thing is certain: I sincerely cheer for your situations. Please overcome this well," and concluded with, "I am sorry for only offering words of encouragement."
Along with the post, Jang Sung-kyu shared a screenshot of a comment left by a netizen on his Instagram.
The netizen pleaded, "Please help our family. We have nowhere to move to and no money for my daughter's hospital bills. We are not receiving support from the community service center," adding, "We were forced to move at the end of August and have no money to get back the deposit."
The netizen also appealed, "After using a credit card for my daughter's treatment, I became credit-impaired, so loans are difficult, and she is currently hospitalized."

Jang Sung-kyu has performed good deeds multiple times in the past. During the 2017 Pohang earthquake, he donated 10 million won by cashing out a savings account he had been contributing 300,000 won to for three years. In April last year, he donated 10 million won to victims affected by the wildfires in Gangwon.
Earlier this year, he donated 50 million won to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In May, to celebrate the birth of his second son in April, he sent 60 million won for Children's Day, and recently, he donated 50 million won to assist flood victims caused by heavy rains.
Because Jang Sung-kyu has regularly extended helping hands across society, he has faced criticism for being reckless toward the fan who requested money. Netizens who learned of this expressed critical voices such as, "In such situations, you can apply for emergency living expenses at the administrative welfare center," and "Instead of writing such comments, you should rather get a part-time job."
