The Democratic Party of Korea (Suncheon Eul) - Suncheon City Holds Party-Government Policy Council Meeting

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Democratic Party of Korea National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong (Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, Gurye Eul) and Suncheon City (Mayor Heo Seok) held a party-government policy council on the 14th to share regional issues and intensively discuss effective measures to secure necessary budget projects in the future.

The party-government policy council was held with the participation of about 30 people, including National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong, Suncheon Mayor Heo Seok, provincial and city councilors from Haeryong-myeon constituency, and heads of departments and offices of Suncheon City.

They had a focused discussion on various issues, including the flawless preparation for the region's biggest issue, the '2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo,' and the attraction of the 'Suncheon National University College of Medicine,' as well as local projects in Haeryong-myeon.

They also deliberated together on ways to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and agreed to actively cooperate and respond jointly to secure national and provincial funding in 2021.

In particular, regarding the '2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo,' they decided to highlight the uniqueness of the 2023 expo, different from the 2013 expo, and seek ways to link it with healing and well-being stay-type tourism projects by reflecting new trends.

They had an intensive discussion on the recent hot issue of attracting the Suncheon National University College of Medicine and the local issue of road construction at Maean Intersection in Haeryong-myeon, pledging to establish an organic cooperative system among the National Assembly members, provincial and city councilors, and Suncheon City for resolution.

Assemblyman Seo Dong-yong said, "Despite the busy schedule with visits to Gurye and Hwangjeon areas severely damaged by the heavy rain along the Seomjin River last weekend and the proposal for the declaration of a special disaster zone, I appreciate the opportunity to discuss regional issues," adding, "I will continue to strive to have Suncheon’s local projects and national fund requests, such as the bill for establishing Suncheon National University College of Medicine and securing special grants for the construction of the Shindae youth swimming pool, reflected in the government budget, and work to create a more just and safe society."

Suncheon Mayor Heo Seok said, "It is time to unite our strength for Suncheon’s new future and coexistence and mutual development where everyone prospers," and added, "I will always communicate with the National Assembly to implement field administration and value-based administration." He also requested, "I ask regional leaders, including National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong, to help secure national funds and resolve local issues to contribute to regional development and citizens’ lives, and to join forces so that Hwangjeon-myeon in Suncheon, along with Gurye and Hadong, which suffered huge damage from recent heavy rains, can be designated as a special disaster area in the Seomjin River basin."

The Democratic Party of Korea Suncheon Regional Committee and Suncheon City plan to regularly hold party-government policy councils with provincial and city councilors to strengthen policy cooperation functions for city administration development and jointly resolve issues.
