Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to normalize diplomatic relations. It is drawing attention whether this will become a new milestone for peace in the Middle East or another source of conflict. On the 13th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump revealed via Twitter that a joint statement was issued announcing the agreement to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and the UAE, mediated by the United States.
The statement was issued in the names of President Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, UAE. According to the statement, delegations from Israel and the UAE will meet within the next few weeks to sign bilateral agreements on investment, tourism, direct flights, security, communications, and other issues. Through this process, both sides are expected to establish diplomatic relations. According to the agreement, Israel will halt the annexation of the West Bank, a Palestinian autonomous territory under international law.
President Trump said, "I look forward to inviting them (the leaders of Israel and the UAE) to the White House in three weeks to officially sign the agreement soon." He also predicted, "Additional agreements will come out in the Middle East within this year."
