Sigma Unveils 630g 'High-Resolution Daily Telephoto Lens' 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art

Sigma's (SIGMA) official importer Segi P&C (CEO Lee Dae-ho) has unveiled the new 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art lens.

On August 6th at 9 PM, Sigma officially announced the 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art lens through the ‘SIGMA STAGE LIVE’ broadcast on Sigma's YouTube channel.

This lens, released in L-mount and Sony E-mount versions, breaks the common perception among users that Sigma Art lenses are “high-quality but heavy and large.” It features a lightweight body of 630g, a compact size with a 77mm filter diameter and a length of 94.1mm, while achieving even better image quality. It is the second lightest among Sigma’s full-frame Art lenses after the 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO | Art, and the lightest among lenses with an aperture in the f/1 range.

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is a full-frame (DG) mirrorless dedicated (DN) lens. It consists of 15 elements in 11 groups, including 5 Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and 1 aspherical element, totaling 6 special elements. Additionally, it incorporates high refractive index lenses to suppress distortion, chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting that are difficult to correct with in-camera correction functions or post-processing.

In particular, it excels at suppressing axial chromatic aberration, allowing for images without color fringing even at the maximum aperture of F1.4. The 11-blade circular aperture produces beautiful round bokeh, and the stepping motor enables smooth and fast autofocus, effectively supporting eye and face detection AF.

Thoughtful functional design for user convenience is another highlight. The aperture ring allows quick aperture adjustments with the hand holding the lens during shooting. To prevent unintentional switching of aperture control modes, an aperture ring lock switch is also included. When the lock switch is ON at the A (auto) position, the aperture ring is fixed; when ON at any aperture other than A, the aperture ring can be adjusted among those values excluding A.

Moreover, the aperture click switch allows switching to stepless aperture control, enhancing usability during video recording. The AFL button primarily functions as AF-Lock and can be assigned other functions via the camera body. The lens features dust and splash resistance, enabling focused shooting in various environments. Each button and control ring is designed considering durability and tactile feedback, providing precise operational sensation to the hand during use.

To commemorate the launch, a pre-experience event titled ‘Complete Your Innovative Art - < SIGMA 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art Review Challenge>’ will be held. Participants will be recruited from August 7 to 13, and the event involves testing the product for about three weeks and submitting reviews. The top participant will receive the new lens as a prize.

A Sigma marketing representative from Segi P&C stated, “The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art is a ‘high-resolution daily telephoto lens’ that supports ultra-high-resolution camera bodies while achieving a compact size and light weight that make it easy to carry every day. This outstanding product completely overturns the perception that Sigma lenses are large and heavy, showcasing Sigma’s technological prowess in its design and performance.”

The Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN | Art lens will be released on August 27, priced at 1,490,000 KRW. More detailed information is available on the Segi P&C website.
