[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 12th, no new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were reported in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. In particular, Daegu has maintained calm as no community infections have been detected for 40 consecutive days.
According to Daegu City on the 12th, as of midnight, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the region remains at 6,945 (6,881 community infections, 64 imported cases), the same as the previous day. The number of recovered patients was counted at 6,848 following one discharge the previous day, and the death toll remains at 187.
Currently, 9 confirmed patients are undergoing isolation treatment, receiving care at three hospitals nationwide. In Daegu, no community infections have occurred for 40 consecutive days since the 4th of last month.
In Gyeongbuk as well, no new confirmed cases were reported the previous day, leaving the cumulative total at 1,369 as of midnight on the 12th. The numbers of recovered patients and deaths remain unchanged at 1,299 and 58, respectively. Although sporadic imported cases and confirmed cases among visitors from other regions occasionally raised concerns about community spread in Gyeongbuk, no new cases were reported over the two days of the 11th and 12th.
On the 10th, it was confirmed that a 36-year-old man who had been staying in Japan and entered through Incheon Airport on the 8th tested positive at Gyeongju Public Health Center and was transferred to a hospital. The man's wife and one child, who entered the country together, tested negative.
