[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Minister of Gender Equality and Family will be able to review the income and assets of child support debtors, so-called 'Bad Fathers,' who do not pay child support.
On the 11th, Kim Seon-kyo, a member of the Future United Party, took the lead in proposing a partial amendment to the "Act on Securing and Supporting Child Support Enforcement" containing such provisions.
Kim Ye-ji, Jeong Jin-seok, Park Dae-su, Yoon Chang-hyun (Independent), Lee Cheol-gyu, Bae Jun-young, Jeong Un-cheon, Kim Seok-gi, and Kim Yong-pan of the United Party participated as co-sponsors.
Under the current law, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family must obtain the consent of the child support debtor to verify and investigate their ability to pay child support. However, according to last year's survey, the consent rate for investigating the assets of child support debtors was only 4.4%.
Under the amendment, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family will be able to secure data related to assets and income, such as national taxes, local taxes, land, buildings, health insurance, national insurance, and immigration records, without consent when verifying and investigating the ability to pay child support.
