Seongbuk-gu Seokgwan-dong Tongjangs Unite Again Amid Longest Ever Monsoon Season Seungro Lee, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, expressed gratitude and respect to the community leaders who extended a helping hand first to neighbors who suffered sudden major damage during the Seokgwan-dong Community Leaders' Council meeting held at the Seokgwan-dong Resident Center on the 6th.

The community leaders who suddenly appear and lend a helping hand have gathered again. The protagonists are 41 community leaders from Seokgwan-dong, including Kim Hee-ja.

Despite the longest rainy season in history, their efforts shone brightly. They donated 2 million won to neighbors affected by the flood damage. Every summer, they used to prepare a Bokdallim event for low-income elderly living alone, but since it was difficult due to COVID-19, they decided to donate the funds to neighbors affected by the heavy rain.

A Seokgwan-dong Community Center official who heard the news said, "With unexpected heavy rain and typhoon impacts causing continuous flood damage reports, the warm hearts of the Seokgwan-dong community leaders will be a great support to the neighbors who suffered damage."

The Seokgwan-dong Community Leaders Association also canceled a planned unity event and raised 2 million won to donate during the Gangwon Province wildfires last April. In February this year, they urgently purchased and distributed masks to marginalized neighbors who had difficulty obtaining masks due to the COVID-19 mask supply crisis, which sparked a mask donation relay.

The continuous good deeds of the Seokgwan-dong community leaders have also received praise from residents. Resident Shin** (51) said, "Living in an apartment, I only hear about flood damage on the news, but the good deeds of the Seokgwan-dong community leaders, who first understood and helped neighbors in difficulty, gave me a chance to reflect on human kindness (jeong)."

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, expressed gratitude and respect, saying, "It takes a lot of effort to return to normal life after sudden major damage, but thanks to the community leaders who reach out first whenever help is needed beyond the region, those who suffered great damage gain the courage to start anew, residents have an opportunity to care for their neighbors, and the administration gains the will for faster and more delicate recovery."

The Seokgwan-dong Community Leaders Association plans to deliver the donation to the Seongbuk-gu Mayor on the 18th, and Seongbuk-gu plans to prepare so that those in need can receive help quickly through the Community Chest of Korea.
