The Only Two Sites Nationwide Selected, Securing Approximately 650 Million KRW in National and Provincial Funding

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) announced that it is the only city nationwide to have two locations selected among 14 sites in the 2020 Local Food Direct Store Installation Support National Subsidy Contest, receiving over 650 million KRW in national funding.
According to the city on the 11th, the project recipients are Yeosu Nonghyup and Yeosu Wonhyup, which will be established in Munsu-dong and Yeocheon-dong respectively, with an investment of 3 billion KRW aiming for completion by the end of this year.
This local food direct store contest project was finally selected after passing the first document evaluation including site suitability, location conditions, and direct store operation plans, followed by on-site evaluation and the second presentation evaluation.
The city secured 503 million KRW in national funds and 151 million KRW in provincial funds through the contest, and additionally secured 352 million KRW in city funds through a supplementary budget in June.
A city official stated, “Through the establishment of local food direct stores, we will secure stable sales channels for producers and provide fresh and safe food to consumers, creating a distribution environment where both producers and consumers can coexist.”
Meanwhile, Yeosu City currently operates four local food direct stores actively: Yeosu Nonghyup Yangji Branch and Udu Branch, and Yeocheon Nonghyup Juklim Branch and Hakdong Branch, with about 800 farms generating annual sales of approximately 15 billion KRW, playing a key role in agricultural product distribution.
