Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education Announces 'Normal School Attendance' for All School Levels After Summer Vacation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] All elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools in the Daegu area will implement "normal attendance," where all students attend school every day, when school resumes after this summer vacation.

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 11th that, except for schools with special circumstances, all schools have been instructed to conduct normal attendance immediately upon reopening after summer vacation. For kindergartens, considering the developmental characteristics of young children, a combination of normal attendance and a two-shift attendance system will be implemented.

The Office of Education had prepared an improved attendance plan in June, allowing schools to autonomously choose their attendance methods. Accordingly, among the 451 elementary, middle, and high schools in the jurisdiction, 224 schools, 261 out of 340 kindergartens, and all 9 special schools have already been operating normal attendance.

While normal attendance after summer vacation is the principle, schools may implement staggered attendance depending on individual school environments such as student density, and the methods of class operation can be autonomously managed by gathering opinions from members at the school level.

Superintendent Kang Eun-hee explained the background of this decision, stating, "Promoting normal attendance is not simply to address students' learning loss, but to support educational activities that provide students with opportunities for emotionally stable growth by living together in the current situation where COVID-19 has somewhat improved."
