[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Future United Party strongly criticized President Moon Jae-in's remark that "housing prices have begun to stabilize," calling him a "president who is deaf to the people."
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the United Party, said in a statement on the 11th, "It was unrealistic from the start to expect a sober recognition of the reality regarding the fact that the entire nation has been trapped in the quagmire of real estate."
She pointed out, "The people's complaints are sky-high, but the president does not listen to their voices. Instead, he seems to trust only Minister Kim Hyun-mi's report that 'Seoul housing prices have risen 11% over three years,'" adding, "Otherwise, there is no way to say that the housing market is stabilizing and prices are being controlled amid this pandemonium (阿鼻叫喚)."
Regarding President Moon's plan to establish a real estate oversight body, she evaluated it as "seeming to drive even genuine buyers into speculators," and criticized it as "a government that ruins policies and then punishes the people."
United Party lawmaker Kwak Sang-do also questioned on Facebook, "Is this an attempt to deceive the people in the same way as income-led growth?" He asked, "The real estate market is only confused by the government's recent measures, so how did President Moon evaluate it as stabilizing? Is he trying to deceive the people?"
Regarding the prediction by Park Ju-min, a Democratic Party lawmaker, that "the effectiveness of real estate measures will appear by the end of this year or early next year," he pointed out, "It reminds me of Policy Chief Jang Ha-sung, who said since August 2018 that the effects of income-led growth, such as minimum wage increases, would appear soon, but ended up cornered."
United Party lawmaker Kim Ki-hyun also criticized, "The whole country is suffering from severe flooding, yet the president is sitting in the safest place in the palace with his secretaries, promoting failed real estate policies," adding, "There has been no apology or even a simple expression of regret for the ongoing public suffering caused by the real estate market chaos, soaring housing prices, rising jeonse prices, and the shortage of jeonse homes."
