Gangnam-gu, 'Chattdong Welfare Delivery System' Reorganized in the With-Corona Era

Existing In-Person Meetings, Education, Counseling, and Care Shifted Online... Support Provided for Cooling and Dehumidifying Devices to Heatwave-Vulnerable Households

Gangnam-gu, 'Chattdong Welfare Delivery System' Reorganized in the With-Corona Era

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has revamped the welfare delivery system of the Visiting Community Service Center (hereafter, Chatdong) by shifting the existing care system to an online-centered approach starting this month in response to the 'With Corona' era.

For this reorganization, the district completed a pilot operation last month in Nonhyeon 1-dong and Irwon 1-dong, and plans to minimize infection risks and improve accessibility to welfare services by converting the existing Chatdong’s face-to-face meetings, training, counseling, and care systems to a non-face-to-face format.

In particular, for the convenience of residents, welfare services can be applied for through the ‘The Gangnam’ app, and equipment such as webcams and headsets along with related video conferencing programs have been installed at the district office and community service centers to enable ▲ meetings and training via the ‘ZOOM’ app ▲ monitoring of care households at high risk of solitary death ▲ and counseling for civil complaints using ‘Onnara Ieum’.

To discover and support welfare blind spots during the summer, Gangnam-gu distributed 96,000 door handle leaflets starting last month and sent promotional text messages to 21,677 welfare-vulnerable households.

For crisis households vulnerable to heatwaves identified through this effort, support will be provided for cooling and dehumidifying devices, emergency supplies, as well as utility bills such as electricity charges.
