Looking for Proud Yeongdeungpo Residents 2019 Residents' Day Commemoration Ceremony

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is accepting nominations for candidates for the ‘27th Yeongdeungpo Resident Award’ until the 19th of this month. The award recognizes residents and organizations who have dedicated themselves to community harmony and regional development through service and volunteer work.

The Resident Award was established to widely publicize the contributions of residents and organizations who have played a leading role in fostering pride and affection for Yeongdeungpo-gu by contributing to district development through sharing and donations, in celebration of the ‘25th Residents’ Day.’

This year, the Resident Award will be presented in nine categories: ▲Honorable Parent Award ▲Filial Piety Award ▲Volunteer Award ▲Sports Award ▲Culture and Arts Award ▲Education Award ▲Environment Award ▲Regional Contribution Award ▲Welfare Award, selecting a total of 18 recipients (individuals or organizations).

Eligibility for nominees requires that, as of the award date, they have resided in Yeongdeungpo-gu for at least three years or are representatives of companies or organizations located in the district.

Recipients are those who have contributed to the development of Yeongdeungpo through dedication and service in their respective fields and serve as exemplary neighbors through exceptional love for the community. Those who have received the Resident Award within the past three years are excluded.

Recommendations can be made by heads of related institutions, organization leaders, or dong (neighborhood) chiefs for each category, and nominations can also be made with the signatures of 30 or more residents.

Nomination forms, achievement reports, and other related documents can be downloaded from the district website under Yeongdeungpo News > Announcements/Public Notices. Completed forms should be submitted in person to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office’s Autonomous Administration Division or the resident’s local dong community center.

Recommended candidates will be selected through an objective and fair review by the Resident Award Achievement Review Committee and will be honored at the ‘Yeongdeungpo Residents’ Day’ ceremony held in September.

This year, the district plans to strengthen the verification process regarding disqualifying factors such as criminal records, conduct on-site investigations of candidates’ achievements, and focus on fair evaluation.

At last year’s ‘24th Residents’ Day’ ceremony held on September 28, a total of 15 individuals were honored with the Resident Award.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “I hope the Yeongdeungpo Resident Award will comfort residents weary from COVID-19 and serve as an opportunity to foster pride and affection for our district. We ask for your active interest so that those quietly working for community development and harmony can be nominated.”
