[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is operating a special vacation program at the elementary care center ‘Ai Kkum Nuri-teo’ to provide psychological quarantine for elementary school students exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
‘Ai Kkum Nuri-teo’ is an after-school elementary care center in Seongdong-gu, with a total of 13 locations in operation. Since the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak, emergency care has been provided for students who have difficulty receiving care at home due to dual-income families, and when online classes began in March, care teachers closely supported students’ online learning individually, receiving explosive responses from parents who could not manage online learning.
Ai Kkum Nuri-teo, which resumed normal operations on the 22nd of last month, has prepared a special vacation program to care for the minds of children who have been mentally and physically exhausted by COVID-19 and to provide various cultural and artistic experience opportunities during the August vacation.
The program was planned in collaboration with Seongdong Innovation Education District’s community education institutions based in the region, consisting of four cultural and artistic fields according to the grade and demand of the children.
The programs include a creative coding program to enhance creativity and coordination, a horticulture program for children’s mental and physical stability, drama play activities for community formation and physical expression training, and a book play program that introduces the joy of print to children accustomed to smart device videos.
To operate safe and healthy programs, quarantine rules are followed, and indoor distancing of ‘separately yet together with friends’ is practiced through various ideas such as zigzag seating between children, forming small groups, and using hygiene partitions.
The district plans to continuously operate the programs during the semester by conducting program operation inspections and satisfaction surveys to improve the quality of care services, expanding excellent programs, and improving areas that need supplementation.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “The importance of care is emphasized more than ever in difficult situations,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create a happy care center where children, parents, and the community can coexist through various care projects.”
