New Business Separate from PB Brand
Main Menus Including Chicken and Hamburgers
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Ministop, the 5th largest convenience store chain by number of stores, plans to launch a fast food specialty brand focusing on chicken and hamburgers within this year.
On the 10th, a Ministop official stated, "Our new business task force (TF) is working on creating a fast food specialty store centered around chicken and hamburger menus," adding, "The menu has not been finalized yet, and we are discussing several options for the brand name, including 'Superbite'."
He also added, "The first test store is expected to open within this year, but the exact timing has not been decided."
Ministop has expertise in ready-to-cook food, owning its own chicken brand 'Chicken First.' Launched this year to mark the company's 30th anniversary, Chicken First started with a total of 14 items, including 10 types of chicken and 4 types of skewers, and is expanding its variety.
Ministop opened its first store in 1990 in Mokdong, Seoul, leading the early revival of Korean convenience store culture. However, it has since fallen to 5th place in the industry due to a significant lag in the number of stores. Ministop is estimated to have around 2,600 stores.
