[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) announced on the 10th that it has secured 1.2 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for the first half of the year, giving momentum to the promotion of various pending projects.
Special grants are a type of grant allocated to cover unexpected financial demands such as changes in local financial conditions and disasters, divided into regional issues and policies, and disaster safety demands.
The special grants secured in the first half of this year amount to a total of 1.2 billion KRW, including 700 million KRW for the maintenance of urban planning roads in Wando-eup and 500 million KRW for the creation of a parking lot within the Wando County Public Stadium. This achievement was the result of multiple visits by Governor Shin Woo-cheol and related officials to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, actively explaining and requesting the necessity of the projects.
Wando County is currently promoting the LPG pipeline network project and the flood prevention project in priority sewer management areas. However, emergency restoration after excavation has caused inconvenience to residents’ traffic and has impaired the urban landscape, making extensive road maintenance urgent.
Accordingly, with the special grants secured for the Wando-eup urban planning road maintenance project, the roads in the Wando-eup urban area can be comprehensively maintained before the Wando International Seaweed Expo next year.
The parking lot creation project within the Wando County Public Stadium is expected to resolve the shortage of parking spaces during local sports competitions and various events held in the sports park, contributing to the establishment of sports infrastructure.
Governor Shin Woo-cheol of Wando County said, “Securing this special grant will be a great help to local finances, which have become even more difficult due to the impact of COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to establish an organic cooperation system with central government departments, the National Assembly, and Jeollanam-do, and actively carry out budget activities to promote local pending projects.”
