Changwon City Provides 1 Million Won Each to 175 Travel Agencies Affected by COVID-19 Changwon City Hall Panorama

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 10th that it has provided 1 million KRW per company to 175 local travel agencies struggling with a decrease in tourists due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

This decision by the city was taken out of concern that the damage to travel agencies mainly handling group packages would be prolonged as demand for small-scale travel has recently increased after 'COVID-19.'

The city selected a total of 175 companies through a review process targeting those that submitted proposals related to 'Discovering Changwon Tourism Resources and Planning Tourism Products,' and paid a total of 175 million KRW (40% provincial funds, 60% city funds), 1 million KRW per company.

The support payments were accepted and executed from the 25th of last month to the 14th of this month for small and medium travel agencies in the area, and additional applications were accepted from the 20th to the 31st for companies that missed the initial application period.

Heo Seong-mu, Mayor of Changwon City, said, "We will continue to prepare support measures that can directly help the travel industry suffering from the prolonged COVID-19 situation."
