[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Market Kurly announced on the 10th that sales during the 8-day period from July 30 to August 6 of the ‘Promotion with Our Agricultural and Livestock Products,’ conducted jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, increased by 17% compared to the previous 8 days, showing results in promoting the consumption of agricultural and livestock products.
To help Korean farms experiencing stagnation, Market Kurly planned the ‘Promotion with Our Agricultural and Livestock Products,’ held until August 9 as part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ ‘Let’s Go for Korea’s Agricultural Discount’ campaign. This promotion offered discounts on over 300 agricultural and livestock products and applied a 20% discount coupon (up to 10,000 KRW) so customers could purchase at lower prices.
The category with the highest sales increase in this promotion was meat and eggs, which saw a 19% sales rise compared to the previous 8 days. Market Kurly analyzed that since meat products tend to be higher priced and the discount benefits were significant, more customers purchased them. Among individual products, the animal welfare certified 20-egg pack of free-range eggs recorded the highest sales among all promotion items. Additionally, antibiotic-free 1+ grade Korean beef sirloin steak showed a 630% sales increase, and antibiotic-free first-grade Korean pork thinly sliced pork belly showed a 390% increase.
Sales of vegetables, fruits, and grains category products also increased by 17% compared to the previous 8 days. Organic figs (600g) ranked second in overall sales, and seasonal low-carbon GAP high-sugar crunchy peaches (4-6 pieces) gained popularity with a 581% sales increase compared to the previous week.
The first promotion, ‘Korea Aquaculture Seafood Festival,’ which started on July 30 and runs until August 12 as part of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ ‘Korea Real Seafood Festival,’ also showed high sales compared to the previous week. Abalone sales continued to be strong for the dog days of summer, and live fish sales increased by 186% compared to before the promotion, indicating growing popularity.
The product with the highest sales growth rate was farmed sea bass sashimi, which saw a 690% sales increase compared to the previous week. Other products such as flounder steak increased by 453%, and two live rockfish showed a 307% sales increase, demonstrating strong performance. Despite no separate discount coupons being applied, customers chose seafood products frequently due to the convenience of receiving fresh seafood delivered directly to their doorstep.
Following the first promotion featuring aquaculture seafood, Market Kurly will hold a ‘Seasonal Seafood’ promotion until August 19. This promotion introduces fresh seasonal seafood from Korea’s clean seas, which can help restore energy weakened by the long rainy season.
The precious fish minoe, once served on the king’s royal table, is offered as a whole cleaned minoe with a 7% discount. Wando abalone from ‘Babeun’ is available at a 25% discount for a more affordable taste. Eel, essential for summer energy replenishment, is offered as freshly cleaned sea eel caught on the day, making it easy to cook. Customers who purchase related promotion products will receive a 20% discount coupon. The coupon can be used once per ID and provides a maximum discount of 10,000 KRW.
