Restoration of Yangjaecheon Walking Trail

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) announced that it will promptly establish restoration and prevention measures for rivers and sewage facilities flooded due to continuous heavy monsoon rains, minimizing residents' inconvenience and preventing damage.

During this monsoon season, approximately 727mm of rain fell in Seocho-gu, Seoul, but the district minimized damage by thoroughly preventing flood damage through the operation of a 24-hour disaster control room.

However, riverside walking paths such as Yangjaecheon and Yeouicheon were flooded, and some roads were submerged, restricting traffic. In response, the district took action to restore the damage and cope with the ongoing monsoon.

The flood restoration and prevention plan includes ▲restoration of riverside walking paths ▲additional securing of flood control materials such as sandbags ▲inspection of sewage systems and rainwater inlets in flood-prone areas ▲inspection of drainage conditions and risk factors around construction sites ▲and inspection of flood barriers.

First, on the 7th, after the rain stopped, the district conducted a major cleanup to remove soil that had flowed into the Yangjaecheon walking path due to rising river water levels, and plans to make the river accessible to residents as soon as the river control is lifted.

In preparation for flooding in low-lying areas caused by the prolonged monsoon, additional flood control materials such as sandbags will be produced and deployed. With sufficient flood control materials, effective on-site response is expected even if heavy rain continues.

Additionally, sewage systems and rainwater inlets in flood-prone areas (Gangnam Station, Naebang Station, Sadang Station) will be inspected and cleaned, and drainage conditions and risk factors around construction sites will be checked to minimize residents' inconvenience and prevent damage.

Furthermore, to minimize flood damage to semi-basement households, flood prevention care officials were deployed to inspect flood barriers in the area.

Seocho-gu Mayor Eunhee Jo stated, “We aim to resolve residents' inconveniences and prevent additional damage through the restoration and maintenance of rivers and sewage facilities,” adding, “We will continue to work diligently to ensure that residents do not suffer inconvenience or flood damage through thorough flood control measures during the remaining monsoon period.”
