Received High Ratings in Environmental, Social, and Governance Sectors
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 9th that it has been included in the FTSE4Good index of the UK FTSE (Financial Times Security Exchange) for the sixth consecutive year.
FTSE4Good is a socially responsible investment index created by FTSE International, jointly owned by the Financial Times (FT) and the London Stock Exchange (LSE), which evaluates the extent of corporate social responsibility fulfillment.
LG Electronics explained that it received high evaluations in all sectors including environment, society, and governance, achieving the highest score in the consumer electronics field.
LG Electronics is leading efforts to realize carbon neutrality and a circular economy through greenhouse gas reduction, development of energy-efficient products, and utilization of waste resources.
Last year, LG Electronics declared 'Carbon Neutral 2030,' which includes plans to reduce carbon emissions generated during the product manufacturing stage by 50% compared to 2017, while achieving carbon neutrality through carbon credits acquired from external carbon reduction activities.
The greenhouse gases emitted by LG Electronics during the product manufacturing stage last year amounted to 1.5 million t CO2e (tons of CO2 equivalent, a value converted to CO2 emissions), which is about a 22% reduction compared to 2017.
In addition, LG Electronics is contributing to solving social issues such as environmental and hygiene problems worldwide by utilizing differentiated products and technologies.
Moreover, LG Electronics operates various programs such as LG Electronics Volunteer Day, where global employees voluntarily participate in sharing with local communities, and LG Social Campus, a support project for social enterprises, striving to create a better society.
Since 2006, LG Electronics has also published an annual sustainability management report, transparently disclosing the results of fulfilling social responsibilities as well as sustainability management performance in economic, social, and environmental areas to stakeholders, thereby enhancing communication.
