Gangnam-gu Supports Employment in Food Packaging Delivery for Vulnerable Groups

Support for Food and Miscellaneous Item Demand Survey and Packaging for Elderly Living Alone and Disabled at Two Locations: Ilwon and Daechi Branches

Gangnam-gu Supports Employment in Food Packaging Delivery for Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has launched a 'Food Delivery' project this month to realize customized welfare services by visiting vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and severely disabled individuals within the district.

The 'Food Delivery' service is provided at two locations, Gangnam Food Market Ilwon and Daechi branch, until November. It accepts orders by phone for groceries, daily necessities, clothing, and other items requested by vulnerable groups, and delivers them directly to their homes. Items can be received free of charge once a month.

To support this, the district has assigned five young workers recruited through the Hope Job Project exclusively to the food market stores to assist with demand surveys, packaging work, and other tasks.

Meanwhile, last month Gangnam-gu signed a business agreement with Gangnam, Yeoksam, and Samsung Tax Offices, and has established cooperative systems with local public institutions such as the Employment Welfare Plus Center, Gangnam and Suseo Police Stations, and Seoul Gangnam Post Office, leading efforts to create a dense social welfare network.

Im Dong-ho, Director of Welfare Policy Division, said, “We are currently developing the application ‘The Gangnam’ to allow users to check the types and quantities of food market items in advance,” adding, “We will continue to expand untact services across welfare to become ‘Ontact Leader, Gangnam,’ representing South Korea.”
