[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik took on the challenge of a templestay.
On the 7th, the tvN show 'Summer Vacation' aired footage of Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik experiencing a templestay. On this episode, Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik headed to Hwaamsa Temple located in Geumgangsan for their templestay. Choi Woo-shik expressed excitement, saying, "I can't believe I'm doing a templestay."
The two started by registering for the templestay. After receiving their room assignments, Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik expressed satisfaction. Then, they changed into modernized hanbok and began the full experience.
Choi Woo-shik, who wanted to try temple food, enjoyed bibimbap during the evening meal, and Jung Yu-mi laughed, saying, "You finished it all." Choi Woo-shik replied, "I was going to have seconds," and happily added, "I could eat this every day."
Later, during the evening Buddhist service, Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik were surprised by the unexpectedly fast pace. They tried hard to follow the person in front but kept missing the timing for bowing, so they glanced around nervously. After the service, there was a tea time. Choi Woo-shik asked, "It's my first time at a temple. Is this where we drink tea and talk together?"
Monk Dong-yoon explained, "Drinking tea while having a conversation is called dadam or chadam. There is no specific topic; I hope you can talk comfortably like that."
Choi Woo-shik responded, "It's my first time experiencing a templestay, and everything is fun. I think I've been unknowingly busy. It's unfamiliar but enjoyable to come here to rest." He then shared his concern, saying, "I have too many random thoughts."
The monk advised, "The way to treat random thoughts is through 'myeol' (extinction). The cause is attachment. You have to let go of all thoughts."
The next day, the two challenged themselves with the early morning Buddhist service. Half asleep and squinting, they struggled to follow along, but their earnest efforts to adapt to the templestay added entertainment to the broadcast.
