Landslide Advisory in Gyeongbuk Seongju, Gimcheon, and Gumi... 'Heavy Rain Warning' Causes Damage in Various Parts of Daegu As of 1 PM on the 7th, the water level of Andong Dam reached 157.34m, approaching the flood season limit of 160m, and the dam is releasing water on this day.


[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 8th, heavy rain concentrated in Daegu and Gyeongbuk caused continuous damage such as road flooding.


According to Gyeongbuk Province and the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters, from the previous day until 10 a.m. on the 8th, about 60 damage reports were received in 13 cities and counties including Gimcheon, Gumi, and Chilgok, such as flooding of houses and roads, and fallen trees.


In Yeongju, Seongju, and Gimcheon, some old houses collapsed due to continuous rain. In Danchon-ri, Anjeong-myeon, Yeongju-si, a house was half-destroyed, and a resident in their 70s evacuated to the senior citizens' center. In addition, three households near landslide areas in Bongam-ri, Yeongju, and Sinjeong-ri, Suryeon-myeon, Seongju-gun, evacuated urgently. Fortunately, there were no casualties.


From the 2nd until recently, seven cases of public facility damage such as landslide soil outflow on road slopes and river embankment collapse occurred in Gyeongbuk. Currently, a landslide advisory has been issued for three cities and counties: Seongju, Gimcheon, and Gumi.


In Daegu as well, since the previous day, damage such as poor drainage and flooding of roads, houses, and factory basements has continued. Currently, vehicle traffic is prohibited on the 2.3 km section from Gachanggyo to Beopwangsa and the 0.8 km section from Dusan-gyo to Sangdong-gyo.


According to the Daegu Meteorological Office, the rainfall amounts by region from midnight on the 7th to 6 a.m. on the 8th were Daegu 147.5 mm, Gimcheon 168.5 mm, Yeongcheon 133.5 mm, and Pohang 97.4 mm. Rain is expected to continue until the night of the 9th with an additional 50 to 150 mm, and up to about 250 mm in some areas.


Currently, heavy rain warnings are in effect for Daegu and Pohang, and heavy rain advisories are in effect for 12 cities and counties including Mungyeong, Cheongdo, Gyeongju, Sangju, Gimcheon, Chilgok, Seongju, Goryeong, Gunwi, Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, and Gumi. A heavy rain preliminary special warning has been issued for Yecheon, Yeongju, Bonghwa, and the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk for the daytime of the 8th.
