[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 7th, Chaehyunil, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, visited the school route of Wooshin Elementary School to ensure children's safety and also conducted an inspection of the Daerim-dong area to prepare for flood and wind disasters.

On this day, the district visited the school route of Wooshin Elementary School located in Singil-dong to check on the safety of the children.

Mayor Chae carefully examined the conditions of the roads and pedestrian paths along the school route, checked the safety measures at nearby construction sites, and urged prompt action to address hazardous signs and other safety threats to children.

He also thoroughly carried out surveillance activities to prevent flood and wind disasters. Heavy and intense rain is forecasted in the Seoul area from the afternoon of the 8th to the 9th, with expected rainfall between 50 to 100 mm. Accordingly, the district conducted on-site inspections of flood-vulnerable areas in Daerim-dong on the 7th, following the inspection on the 6th, to prepare for flood and wind disasters.

First, the district visited Dorim-ro in front of the Southern Road Office, where 'road diet' construction has been underway since June, to check the progress of the construction and safety measures. The district plans to adjust the road width and widen sidewalks here to alleviate inconvenience for pedestrians caused by the floating population around Daerim Station and bicycle parking.

The district also inspected Daerim Central Market, a public safety-vulnerable area frequently used by the public, to prepare for flood and wind disasters. The inspection focused on identifying risk factors particularly vulnerable to flood and wind disasters, such as illegal decks inside the market and arbitrarily covered rainwater inlets, and took measures to develop solutions for these issues.

Meanwhile, the district is operating all eight rainwater pumping stations, having discharged approximately 1.79 million tons of water so far, to prevent flood and wind disasters. It has also implemented control measures along the entire sections of Dorimcheon and Anyangcheon streams to protect the lives and safety of residents. Currently, Dorimcheon has not been flooded, and only parts of Anyangcheon are flooded.

The district has issued a Level 1 Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters alert as of 8 a.m. on the 7th and is operating a 24-hour emergency duty system.

Mayor Chaehyunil of Yeongdeungpo-gu stated, “To prepare for flood and wind disasters, I inspected children's school routes, road construction sites, and traditional markets to ensure residents' safety,” adding, “We will prevent damage through thorough preparation and pre-inspections against sudden adverse weather conditions.”
