[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Cadillac unveiled the pure electric crossover vehicle LYRIQ on the 6th (local time in the U.S.), beginning the introduction of its electric vehicle portfolio.
Steve Carlisle, President of GM North America, said, "Leading with LYRIQ, Cadillac will present an innovative EV portfolio over the next decade and redefine American luxury. We will captivate customers' senses, anticipate what they desire, and provide experiences that take them on a special journey."
LYRIQ is based on GM's next-generation modular electric vehicle platform and powered by the Ultium system, offering customers various charging range and performance options. Driving range is one of the most important factors when choosing an electric vehicle. Based on internal testing, LYRIQ can travel up to 300 miles (approximately 483 km) on a full charge.
LYRIQ is built on Cadillac's new modular EV platform. Unlike applying an electric platform to a traditional vehicle base, it achieves a spacious interior relative to the body size through an electric vehicle-optimized space configuration, increasing driving range and enabling a more attractive driving experience.
Ultium's advanced NCMA (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Aluminum) uses aluminum as the anode material, reducing the use of expensive rare earth elements like cobalt. In fact, GM engineers have reduced cobalt content by 70% compared to previous GM batteries.
Additionally, fast and convenient charging is possible anywhere. Using DC fast charging, LYRIQ can be charged at outputs exceeding 150 kW per hour.
Inside the vehicle, Cadillac provides top-tier driver information, infotainment, and connectivity integration features to help drivers focus more efficiently on driving. A single large curved screen integrates a 33-inch premium LED display that encompasses driver information details, infotainment controls, and camera views, delivering information within the driver's line of sight.
The next-generation Cadillac electric vehicle LYRIQ showcases a new face, proportions, and presence. Designed with clean lines and smooth surfaces, LYRIQ features a low and agile roofline emphasizing a bold, modern, and confident wide body. Additional details such as the flow-through roof spoiler reflect meticulous attention to aerodynamics, enhancing efficiency even on highways.
The vehicle's front 'Black Crystal' grille is one of LYRIQ's most unique and impressive design elements. It expresses LYRIQ's dynamic characteristics and plays a key role in the lighting design of the new model, along with bold and slim vertical LED lights. At the rear, a split taillamp design including slim LEDs can be seen.
