[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] Concerns about the resurgence of COVID-19 are growing in France, which has been severely affected by the novel coronavirus infection.
According to BBC and other sources on the 6th (local time), the French Ministry of Health announced that as of the previous day, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 194,029, an increase of 1,695 cases within 24 hours. The daily number of new confirmed cases recorded the highest level in about two months since May 30 (1,828 cases).
Additionally, the 7-day average number of confirmed cases also exceeded 1,300. The daily average number of confirmed cases this month is 1,222, which is three times that of June (435 cases). However, it is still about half compared to April, when the spread of COVID-19 peaked at 2,585 cases.
As the speed of COVID-19 spread accelerates again, response measures are also being strengthened. Cities such as Lille, Nice, and Toulouse have introduced regulations mandating mask-wearing in busy areas. The capital Paris is also expected to soon announce measures requiring masks to be worn along the Seine River and at tourist attractions.
