[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Chaehyunil, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, held an emergency meeting on the 6th to prevent flood and wind damage, and then conducted a comprehensive on-site inspection of flood and wind vulnerable areas around Yeouido.

With a heavy rain warning in the Seoul area maintained from the 2nd to the 7th and a strong wind advisory issued at 4 a.m., Mayor Cha convened an emergency countermeasure meeting on the morning of the 5th at the Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to check the response status by department and neighborhood and to prepare future measures related to heavy rain and strong winds.

Mayor Chaehyunil of Yeongdeungpo District closely checked whether safety measures were properly implemented at large construction sites and vulnerable facilities, and urged more attention to patrols of low-lying and flood-prone areas, including the removal of rainwater drain covers.

Also, ahead of the strong wind advisory on the 6th and the forecast of hourly expected rainfall of 50 to 100mm (over 120mm in some areas) of heavy rain until the 7th, he launched an on-site inspection to prevent flood and wind damage.

On that day, the district conducted an on-site inspection of the Han River riverside area, which was flooded, and carefully checked the safety status of large rooftop advertisements on nearby buildings, Saetgang pedestrian overpass, Yeouido Yukgapmun, and Wonhyo Bridge sequentially.

In the afternoon, inspections were conducted at Yangpyeong Retention Basin, Anyangcheon, and Dorimcheon.

Along with this, the district operated all eight rainwater pumping stations and has discharged about 1.54 million tons of water so far.

Additionally, the district controlled all four Yukgapmun gates as well as the entire sections of Dorimcheon, Anyangcheon, and the Han River embankment, which were flooded due to heavy rain, to protect the lives and safety of residents.

Each department and community center inspected vulnerable areas and construction sites in preparation for the expected strong winds on the 6th, and all heatwave shade tents were secured.

Currently, the district has issued a crisis level at the Flood and Wind Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and is operating a 24-hour emergency duty system.

Mayor Chaehyunil of Yeongdeungpo District stated, “We will prevent flood and wind damage through proactive responses such as 24-hour monitoring of weather conditions and real-time on-site inspections,” and added, “We will protect the safety and property of residents through thorough preparation and swift action.”
