[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, will hold a preliminary residents' briefing session on the 7th, organized by Namdong Smart Valley Development Co., Ltd., to discuss the progress of the Namchon General Industrial Complex project and gather residents' opinions.
The residents' briefing session, held at 3:30 PM at Seonhak Gymnasium, was arranged by Yeonsu-gu at the official request of Namdong-gu and Namdong Smart Valley Development ahead of the joint briefing scheduled for the 20th.
The preliminary briefing is intended to provide explanations from the developer and hear residents' opinions following the discovery that the environmental pollutant (carcinogen) risk assessment results differed from the contents of the draft environmental impact assessment report during the joint briefing by Namdong Smart Valley Development on the 3rd of last month.
In this regard, Yeonsu-gu has requested strengthening restrictions on the types of businesses allowed within the industrial complex to minimize environmental pollutant emissions, continuous monitoring of representative air pollutants by industry type, and measures responding to changes in pollution levels.
Additionally, Yeonsu-gu stated that it will continuously collect and review various opinions from Yeonsu residents to block and prevent factors that threaten residents' health and safety to the greatest extent possible, making every effort to do so.
The residents' briefing session will be attended by about 200 people, including Yeonsu residents, Yeonsu-gu Mayor Gonam-seok, representatives of Namdong Smart Valley Development, and officials from each district. The session will proceed with explanations of the project details and future plans, followed by the collection of residents' opinions.
Namdong Smart Valley Development will hold another joint briefing on the 20th to comprehensively evaluate environmental performance and traffic issues, following concerns raised about the risk assessment results of the Namchon General Industrial Complex project last month.
A Yeonsu-gu official stated, "We plan to actively propose the various demands and opinions derived from the preliminary residents' briefing to Incheon City and Namdong-gu," adding, "We are strengthening the monitoring system to prevent direct environmental damage such as odors, noise, and air pollution to residents."
