[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Cho Jeong-sik, the Policy Committee Chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that the pilot complex for Seoul reconstruction will be swiftly promoted.

At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 6th, Chairman Cho said, "According to the August 4th measures, 240,000 housing units will be supplied in the Seoul area," adding, "The party and government will accelerate the newly introduced public participation high-density reconstruction projects based on cooperation with local governments such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government."

Chairman Cho stated, "We will prepare plans to improve the quality of public housing and to expand and diversify the supply area per household considering market demand," and added, "Through the composition of public housing, we will also increase the acceptance of the project by local residents."

He continued, "We will promptly proceed with the pilot complex in the Seoul reconstruction area to ensure that the public participation high-density reconstruction project spreads as a model," emphasizing, "We will also expedite follow-up legislation such as the Urban and Residential Environment Improvement Act necessary for this."

Regarding the announced collective medical strike, he said, "We ask to refrain from collective actions that cause great harm and confusion to the public," and added, "Especially in the situation where the risk of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) still remains, if medical staff engage in collective actions, there is a high possibility of a breach in the 'K-quarantine.' We ask for careful handling."

He further stated, "It is no longer possible to neglect the shortage of essential medical personnel in medically vulnerable rural and fishing areas," and said, "The medical school quota is an essential condition. The party and government will also listen to the voices of the medical community regarding the placement of medical personnel, fee issues, and improvement of the training environment for residents."
