Residents Respond Enthusiastically... Expectation for Expansion of Local Shared Car Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seongsu Park) is expanding the ‘Local Shared Car’ service, which utilizes idle parking spaces to alleviate parking difficulties.
The ‘Local Shared Car’ service allows residents to provide idle parking spaces at their residences or workplaces to shared car operators (Green Car, Socar, People Car, Dil Car). The operators then deploy shared cars and offer discounted usage fees to the local residents who provide the parking spaces.
There are three types of shared cars depending on the target group, with different users and discount benefits.
‘Apartment Shared Car’ is available for residents of apartment complexes. A 30% discount is applied.
‘Neighborhood Shared Car’ is available for residents of detached houses and villas. Parking space providers can receive up to a 50% discount, and residents can receive a 20% discount.
‘Business Shared Car’ is deployed within companies and can be used by employees for work and business trips. Employees can use it at a 20% discounted rate.
Since July, the district has deployed the first 10 Local Shared Cars at the Garden Five Life building in the Munjeong district.
Until now, shared car services were concentrated in traffic-dense areas, requiring users to go to the vehicles themselves, which was inconvenient. The district reported that using ‘Local Shared Cars’ allows residents to conveniently access the service right in front of their homes or workplaces, receiving positive responses from users.
Additionally, considering the COVID-19 situation, regular hygiene management such as car washing and disinfection is conducted.
Currently, the deployment of Local Shared Cars is being reviewed in apartment complexes around the Munjeong district, and the service area is expected to gradually expand in the future.
Mayor Seongsu Park stated, “Songpa-gu is the most populous city in Seoul, so residents experience significant inconvenience due to parking difficulties. We will work harder to support the stable establishment of Local Shared Cars to help resolve parking issues and ultimately improve residents’ quality of life.”
