[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the morning of the 5th that it held the ‘2nd Artificial Intelligence Breakfast Forum’ at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology Promotion, attended by about 100 people including AI-related companies that signed a business agreement to create an AI industrial ecosystem, local companies, universities, and related organizations.
The forum will be regularized and held on the second Wednesday of every month as a place to share successful cases of AI convergence, strengthen regional industrial competitiveness, and promote mutual exchange of talent, technology, and information for win-win development.
After holding the first forum on June 10 with a special lecture by Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, the forum was suspended due to the resurgence of COVID-19, and the second forum was held on this day.
At the forum, Lee Kyung-il, CEO of Saltlux, which signed a business agreement with Gwangju City and opened the Gwangju AI Center in Dong-gu I-Plex in April, gave a special lecture titled ‘Artificial Intelligence and Industrial Innovation,’ presenting changes in productivity through AI, hardware innovation, manufacturing innovation, and the future direction of digital humans.
CEO Lee emphasized, “Just as everything underwent digital transformation over the past 20 years, causing significant socio-economic changes, the next 20 years will see AI transformation of everything.”
Saltlux holds the largest number of AI-related patents in Korea and plans to develop its own knowledge databases of video, voice, image, and text as AI training data. It is actively cooperating with Gwangju City to enable startups and others to utilize this data for AI research and entrepreneurial activities.
After the lecture, forum members including participating companies and related organizations introduced their products and discussed cooperation and current issues in a networking session, continuing free communication.
The next 3rd breakfast forum will be held on the 9th of next month, with a special lecture by Lee Sung-ryeol, CEO of SAP Korea.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop said, “In a situation where it is difficult to secure competitiveness without actively and preemptively responding to changes in the post-COVID era, the significance of this breakfast forum, where AI companies, related organizations, and universities gather to share information and seek solidarity, is great,” adding, “We will regularize the forum and invite excellent AI experts as lecturers to support new information sharing and growth of AI companies.”
